Learn about the incredible benefits of Boldo

In principle, the boldo boldú cimarrón or Peumus boldus is a tree that belongs to the family Monimiáceas. This specimen is native to South America and finds its perfect place to grow in wild and temperate areas of the Andean regions of Chile and Argentina, as well as settling in the southern highlands of Peru.
There are various ways to benefit from the great properties of this South American tree. Its fruit has been eaten both raw and cooked, since pre-Columbian times, and both its hard bark and its leafy leaves are used; mainly the latter are the most used in infusions.
Its composition is based on essential oils such as cineol, eucalyptol and ascaridiol (also present in the well-known quinoa), as well as flavonoids and tannins. The first of these oils is the one that gives boldo its lemon aroma, as well as having sedative, relaxing and expectorant properties, while the other two are anti-inflammatory and carminative, in other words, they reduce gases present in the digestive tract.
Flavonoids are very beneficial for our body because they have been attributed the ability to considerably reduce the risk of suffering some heart diseases and as for the tannins present in the boldo bark, they are recognized for their important antioxidant properties.
Also from essential oils, boldú contains alkaloids such as boldine, which has important diuretic properties, in other words, it helps to eliminate liquids, protects the liver from factors that damage it, and is used to stimulate the production and expulsion of the bile.
